Canon‘s EOS 100D, known as the Rebel SL1 in America, takes the poll position as the world’s smallest and lightest DSLR. Based on the recently launched EOS M compact mirrorless camera and borrowing many of its specs, including the same 18 megapixel CMOS APS-C sensor capable of capturing from ISO100-12800 and up to ISO6400 for video at 30 fps with continuous auto-focus, this is one powerful handheld. The 100D also uses Canon’s DIGIC 5 processors that lets you shoot up to 4 fps in burst mode, which nicely combines with a nine-point auto-focus system viewable through a 3-inch 1040k dot touchscreen LCD. The back also hosts several filters that all levels of photogs can apply to their photos, but the best feature has to be that this unit will also be compatible with any of Canon’s EOS series of lenses (even though they may look quite front-heavy when attached to this compact device) meaning you can utilize any that you already have. The EOS 100D/Rebel SL1 will go on sale in April, arriving with a EF-S 18-55m f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens priced at $799.

  1. You are writing about the “smallest DSLR camera” on earth (which is true) – but i am questioning who the actual target audience for such a camera is. People that actually care about the size of their camera are using system cameras with micro four thirds. I actually cannot see why a small DSLR is preferrable over a “normal” sized one, since you would anyway need lots of additional tools and gear to shoot. just my 2cents…
